Federal Workforce Competency Initiative Employee Survey

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is asking for your help to build a more effective Federal workforce.  You can help by completing this survey which is designed to obtain important information about the work performed across a wide array of Federal positions.  Although you may perform other tasks and require more technical competencies to carry out your job duties, for this survey we are only focused on tasks and competencies that are common across general schedule occupations.

How Will the Results of the Survey be Used?

In this study, we are collecting information to identify the tasks and competencies that are most important for successful performance in a variety of occupations.  Results will be used to inform Federal human resources policy and to assist employees in career development and training, as well as to help organizations with workforce planning, selection, and performance management.  Your results and those from other employees and supervisors will describe and quantify the work performed across the Federal Government.

Who is Being Asked to Complete the Survey?

To obtain the best possible information, we are asking Federal employees across many occupations and their supervisors to complete the survey.  Please complete the survey yourself and do not forward it to others.

Who Will See My Responses to the Survey?

Your responses will be analyzed by OPM.  All information that you provide will be treated confidentially by OPM.  Only group data will be reported; in any public release of survey results, no data will be disclosed that could be used to identify specific individuals.

What Does the Survey Cover?

This survey contains four sections: (I) Occupational Background, (II) Competencies, (III) Tasks, and (IV) Personal Demographics.  The Occupational Background section asks you to provide information about your job.  The Competencies section asks you to rate competencies that may be required to perform your job.  The Tasks section asks you to rate tasks that may be performed as part of your job.  The Personal Demographics section asks you to provide information about yourself.
